Could John Barrowman be I'm A Celebrity's first gender fluid champion?

John Barrowman has said he wants to be the first gender fluid I’m A Celebrity winner.

The former Doctor Who star, 51, is gearing up for life in the jungle after signing up alongside stars including Emily Atack and James McVey for this year’s series.

“I would be over the moon if I won,” he said. “I would be the king or queen of the jungle!”

Barrowman joked he is looking forward to some “me time” away from his husband Scott Gill, who he married in 2013.

“Scott thinks I’m A Celeb will be awesome,” he said. “But will I be pining for him? Oh gosh no. I am looking forward to the quiet. I am very logical.

“To be blunt, it will also be nice to have some ‘me’ time. Nobody will be able to get in touch, text or email. I know it’s a game and I’m not going to be a misery.”

Barrowman, who played Captain Jack Harkness in BBC sci-fi series Torchwood, said he is looking forward to losing his “love handles,” but admitted to being scared of “confined spaces [and] jumping out of planes”. He is also allergic to shellfish.

The full line-up was unveiled on Monday after Nick Knowles, Sair Khan, Fleur East and Harry Redknapp were all spotted at Brisband airport.

Other names confirmed include Rita Simons, Anne Hegerty and Malique Thompson-Dwyer.

Declan Donnelly will front the show without Ant McPartlin for the first time in the shows 16 year history.

He will instead present alongside Holly Willoughby who joined the team after McPartlin stepped down from his TV commitments following a drink driving conviction and rehab.

Donnelly joked Willoughby needs to “toughen up fast” after she admitted to being scared of bugs and easily frightened.

I’m A Celebrity is on ITV, Sunday at 9pm
