In 2020 the rejuvenated XFL will return after a 19-year hiatus with a new eight-team league, which will include a franchise in Seattle.
The club has not come up with a name yet, although rumblings indicate they may have a head coach in mind – former Seahawks player and assistant coach Jim Zorn.
Zorn has not signed a contract, and the rumors aren’t necessarily tying Zorn to the Seattle franchise.
However, he is no doubt familiar with the football scene in Seattle, having spent nine years as a player with the Seahawks (from 1976-1984) as well as eight years as a coach – one in 1997 as an offensive assistant and again from 2001-2007 as the quarterbacks coach.
Zorn is fourth all-time in Seahawks franchise history in completions, passing yards and passing touchdowns. He served as QB coach to Matt Hasselbeck during Seattle’s dominant run in the mid-2000s, which culminated in a Super Bowl appearance.
The XFL, similar to the new Alliance of American Football (AAF) league, will feature shorter games and a more fan-centric experience.
The league originally started in 2001 but folded after just one season.
