Could former Nottingham Forest managerial flop be about to buy League One club?

Ex-Nottingham Forest manager David Platt is part of a consortium keen on buying League One club Bristol Rovers, according to Bristol Live

According to the newspaper, Platt and businessman Clive Richardson have put together a bid to rival another consortium keen on buying the club and have made initial contact with Rovers' owners.

Platt, who endured a disastrous spell in his first managerial role at the City Ground between 1999 and 2001, last managed at Indian outfit Pune City four years ago, and has since been involved in the business side of football running his own management consultancy firm based in Alderley Edge, Approach Associates.

Richardson, Bristol Live say, became acquainted with Platt when the pair worked together on the sale of Italian side Palermo, a club which refounded in July after the original club folded due to financial issues.

Palermo were bought by Sports Capital Group PLC in December 2018 for just 10 euros, with Platt acting in a consultancy role – even appearing at the press conference to confirm the deal, though it’s believed his involvement ended thereafter.

Dean Holdsworth, the former Bolton striker, was also involved in that takeover having landed the director of football operations role at Palermo, but it remains unclear if he’s part of Platt and Richardson’s bid for the Gas.

“The Al Qadi family remain committed to a sale due to frustration over plans to build a new stadium and training ground, while the club posted losses of £65,000 a week in the accounts for 2018/19,” say Bristol Live.
