Could former Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka be about to link up with Arvin Appiah again?

Former Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka has been linked with Spanish club Almeria.

The 45-year-old has been out of work since he left the City Ground in January after little more than a year in charge.

But according to The Sun, he could be set for a return to his homeland after being headhunted by the La Liga 2 outfit.

Following their takeover by Turki Al-Sheikh, Almeria are reportedly eager to get back to the top-flight, having not featured there since 2015.

And it is said they could look to Karanka to try to secure promotion as quickly as possible.

If he does end up taking over the reins, the former Middlesbrough manager would link up again with Arvin Appiah.

It was Karanka who handed Appiah his debut for the Reds back in October 2018, before the teenager made the move to Spain earlier this month in an £8m deal.

Spanish newspaper Marca reported last week that Almeria’s new owner has posted on social media about meeting several Spanish coaches - including Karanka - to analyse matches and “exchange opinions and concepts”.

Posting a picture of himself alongside Karanka and fellow coaches Quique Setien and Jon Pascua, he wrote: “I watched the game with some of the world’s best coaching legends and discussed the development of the academy at the club.”
