'Could do without' - Newcastle urged to sell star man in verdict that will surprise Magpies fans

If Newcastle United need to sell players before they buy them this summer then Miguel Almiron is a player 'they could do without',

That was the bold verdict of former England and Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson who believes the Paraguay international is 'replaceable'.

Almiron has emerged as one of Newcastle's key players since his then-club record move from Atlanta United in January 2019.

The 27-year-old has been a mainstay in the side under both the management of Rafa Benitez and Steve Bruce and his importance to the team has even been highlighted by team-mates like Jonjo Shelvey.

However, Robinson doesn't subscribe to that view and after quotes from Almiron's agent last year hinted his client was ready to leave Newcastle, the former Leeds and Blackburn goalkeeper feels his departure could be a useful way of raising cash for incoming transfers this summer.

“Almiron is one of their best players," Robinson told Football Insider.

“He has done well since coming to the Premier League but at times I question his heart and his determination.

“He questioned his own teammates last season, which I thought was pretty rich.

“If Newcastle are in need of selling before buying I think he is a player that they could do without. He would be one of the ones I’d sell. He is replaceable.”
