A veteran NFL offensive lineman is attempting a comeback and it could be of intrigue to the Kansas City Chiefs.
According to The Score’s Jordan Schultz, former San Diego Chargers first-round draft pick D.J. Fluker will be working out at the upcoming Alabama pro day on Thursday, March 23. The 6-foot-5 and 330-pound offensive lineman has started over 100 combined regular-season and postseason games during his career. However, the 32-year-old hasn’t played any meaningful NFL snaps since the 2020 NFL season.
He signed with the Miami Dolphins in April of 2021 and ended up on injured reserve with a torn meniscus before his eventual release in July. He would then end up on the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad before being suspended for six weeks in September. Fluker sat out the 2022 NFL season, but he’s now poised to turn some heads at the Alabama pro day.

Could a player like Fluker make sense for the Chiefs? The team lost a ton of positional flexibility on the offensive line when Andrew Wylie signed with the Washington Commanders in free agency. Fluker has started games at left tackle, right tackle and right guard during the course of his eight-year NFL career. Not only could he provide competition for a player like Lucas Niang at the right tackle spot in Kansas City, but he could provide valuable depth at a position where the team currently lacks it. He certainly won’t command a lot of money, which would also be appealing to a team like the Chiefs. They could probably offer him a similar deal to the one that Kyle Long took back in 2021.
