Could Chiefs DL Chris Jones finally throw a pass in 2019?

It’s no secret that Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is somewhat of a mad scientist when it comes to drawing up plays on offense. Sometimes he even gets creative and adds some wrinkles that involve his defensive players pitching in on offense.

It wasn’t too long ago that Reid had former Chiefs nose tackle Dontari Poe running up the gut, catching touchdown passes, and throwing jump passes on the goal line for points. Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones has been seeking an opportunity to get in on the action on offense for some time now, but so far Reid hasn’t budged.

Jones and Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald were teammates back in Jones’ college days, and according to Fitzgerald, this is far from the first time Jones has made this request.

“He’s been begging to be part of the offense since I was at State,” said the QB. “I think eventually some one will be crazy enough to let him do it, or else he’s going to bug some one enough until they finally say okay.

“I think he really just wants to throw a pass, whenever that happens I think he’ll finally calm down.”

Jones even added to the conversation on Twitter.

If there was a coach in the NFL crazy enough (or smart enough) to let Jones throw a pass in an NFL game, it’s Andy Reid. It may be hard to convince Reid to pry the ball from Patrick Mahomes’ hands for a play, but it’d certainly be fun to see Jones finally get his opportunity on offense in 2019.
