Could a sailing ship be built as big as a container vessel?

According to a Guardian report on the return of sailing ships as a cleaner way of transporting goods by sea, the Ceiba, which is under construction in Costa Rica, will be the largest such vessel in the world – and yet will still be dwarfed by the huge container ships. Would it not be possible to build one the size of a container vessel – or is the huge size of the sails required the problem?
