Could a heavier Marcus Bingham Jr. be poised to break out?

Marcus Bingham Jr. has been one of the most interesting prospects I have seen come through East Lansing, maybe ever. The 4-star power forward from Grand Rapids came into East Lansing last summer way too light to be able to play real minutes, we all knew that from the jump. He came into camp at 200 pounds, and even that was probably a little generous. Now, he’s said to be up to 225 pounds and the word on the street is that he has been playing a much stronger game.

If this is true, he could be a surprise breakout candidate this season as his weight was one of the biggest things keeping him off the floor.

This is great news from Xavier Tillman and means we could see Bingham Jr. play a much larger set of minutes this season. With the forward position becoming more and more crowded at Michigan State each year, he will need minutes now to fight for a starting spot in his junior season (or to make an early jump to the NBA, who knows).

Judging by the clip from Moneyball below, he looks like he’s added even more moves to his arsenal, and it will be fun to watch him compete with players like Julius Marble for minutes moving forward.
