He's one of the biggest stars of the NBL, but Bryce Cotton isn't sure he possesses the right personality traits to captain the Perth Wildcats.
The Wildcats need to appoint a new skipper after Damian Martin retired at the end of last season.
Martin had been captain since 2013, and his departure leaves a big leadership void as the Wildcats aim to snare a hat-trick of titles.
On talent, Cotton appears to be the perfect replacement.
But the two-time MVP winner concedes his introverted personality probably won't be the best fit for the role.
"I'm kind of indifferent to it, it doesn't really matter to me," Cotton said of the captaincy.
"I don't have the most outgoing personality. I feel being a captain it might be a little bit different from my personality.
"It's not something I want to reach out and grab. I'm more of a leader by example, not so much with my voice.
"If it's going to be a vocal guy, I may not be first option for that."
Cotton said it would take a group effort to fill the leadership void.
Jesse Wagstaff, former Adelaide captain Kevin White, Mitch Norton, and Todd Blanchfield are some of the other options for the captaincy.
Cotton is in the process of gaining his Australian citizenship, but he's still in the dark as to when it will be processed.
The Wildcats hoped to sign an extra import once Cotton's citizenship went through, but the door is closing on that prospect ahead of the 2021 season.
Perth's season tips off at home to the Sydney Kings on January 15.
