Cosy Bristol pub announces reopening date after seven-month coronavirus closure

A pub described as "Bristol's best-kept secret" has announced its reopening date, almost seven months after lockdown began.

The Cornubia in Redcliffe had to close its doors in March as coronavirus hit, but is now ready to welcome customers back with new safety measures in place.

It will reopen at 12pm on Monday (October 12) and punters will notice a few changes, from a refurbished look to new rules in line with the government guidance.

A post shared on the pub's Facebook page yesterday (Wednesday, October 7) said: "So the time has finally come to proudly say that we are reopening.

"We can’t wait for you to see the newly refurbished pub, it’s been a long time coming!

"We are grateful for all the support we’ve received this year and hope to see many familiar and new faces when we reopen."

A list of new rules were detailed in the post, and anyone ignoring these will be asked to leave.

Customers must wear a mask unless they are seated at a table, use table service only, stick to the rule of six and provide details on entry (or scan in using the NHS Covid-19 app).

The pub is located in Temple Street and its website proudly speaks of it being "the city’s best kept secret and much loved real ale house".

Walls and ceiling are covered in colourful beer mats inside, and there is a cosy beer garden outside.

The dog-friendly pub will be accepting walk-ins and booking will not be available, with customers asked to seat themselves if there is capacity.

There are a few spread-out tables inside but most of the tables are in the garden, which is covered from the rain.

Many pubs and restaurants in Bristol reopened on July 4, which is when the government lifted the closure order on the hospitality industry.

Some opted to stay closed, however, including The Cornubia.

In June the pub shared a Facebook post explaining why it would not be reopening, which read: "The health and safety of our customers and staff is of the utmost important to us.

"We don’t feel that we can sensibly enforce the government guidelines at this stage, due to the size of the pub, amongst other things."

Customers can read the full reopening rules on the pub's Facebook page.

One regular commented: "We have missed our Cornubian family."
