Costco stores are staying open during the second lockdown

Costco stores will stay open throughout the second national lockdown, which started today (November 5).

This means shoppers can continue visiting their local branch to pick up essential items such as food and toilet rolls.

Over the past few days, panic-buyers were spotted stockpiling certain items at the superstores ahead of the latest nation-wide shutdown, despite pleas for shoppers to buy sensibly.

The retailer normally opens its doors for trade customers from 10am and from 11am for individuals, shutting at 8.30pm.

Its opening hours can vary from store to store though, so it's best to double-check times for your nearest stores before heading out using the online store finder.

As Costco sells essential items, it is allowed to stay open under the latest Government guidelines for the second lockdown.

There are currently around 30 Costco stores in the UK, but you need to be a member to shop there.

A membership for an individual is priced at £33.60 a year and allows you to shop both in stores and online.

If you only want to use its website, there's an online-only membership which costs £15 each year.

There's even the choice of an executive membership for £74.40 a year which gets you extra perks like cashback on purchases.

When the first lockdown began in March, the retailer introduced a number of restrictions limiting the amount of items you could purchase.

There are currently safety measures in place at all Costco stores to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

These include screens at till points, frequent disinfecting and social distancing guidelines.

B&M and Home Bargains have also been given permission to stay open as both retailers stock food and household goods.
