Costco confirms covid outbreak at Glasgow store

An outbreak of coronavirus has occurred at Costco in the north of Glasgow.

Bosses confirmed they are currently working with Public Health Scotland following the outbreak at the busy warehouse in St Rollox Business Park in the Springburn area.

They have declined to confirm exactly how many members of staff have contracted the virus, but say that the increase in cases recorded among staff is indicative of both the discovery of the new variant and the busy festive period.

Jay Loveard, UK Regional Administration Manager for Costco, told Glasgow Live: "Well essentially from my point of view the increases in covid cases that we've experienced recently coincide with the rise across the entire UK since the discovery of the new variant and also what happened around the festive period and that's indicative of that.

"Now the positive cases that we have had we have reported as we are required to do to Public Health Scotland and we have been visited by the council's environmental health department and we are working with them to ensure we maintain a covid secure workplace that we've had and operated since the start of the pandemic.

"If Glasgow City Council's Department of Health or Public Health Scotland had issues with any of our policies obviously they would have take action and they have not."
