The multi-million pound leisure complex at Cribbs Causeway is starting to take shape - with the first business on site now open.
Baylis Estates is behind the £40million scheme for a leisure complex off Merlin Road, including an ice rink, skydiving centre, Jaguar Land Rover showroom and Costa Coffee drive-thru.
The long-awaited project was formally granted planning permission in April 2017. Developers hoped it would open the following year, but unknown issues prevented that from happening.
But now the first business on the site - Costa Coffee - has opened its doors and the finishing touches are being put to the car showroom ahead of its opening in the spring.
Construction on the long-awaited ice-rink on the site has also begun with the Planet Ice rink not set to launch until early 2021.
It will be the first to open in Bristol since the Frogmore Street facility closed in 2012.
The rink will have capacity for 1,300 spectators and will become home to the Bristol Pitbulls ice hockey team, as well as hosting public skating sessions.
There are currently no details about when the iFly skydiving centre will open.
The leisure complex is expected to create 230 jobs.
Baylis managing director David Mace said lots of progress had already been made on the site and he was excited to be able to share more details soon.
Phase two of the development – a hotel and retail space – has outline planning consent, but Mr Mace does not yet have an expected date of completion.
