Costa Coffee issues urgent warning to anyone who visits its cafes

Costa Coffee has issued an update to its customers on social media to share the news that they are having to axe popular menu items.

The chain coffee shop has had to follow in the footsteps of fellow high street businesses like Greggs, Nando's, Subway and McDonald's amid supply chain chaos.

The high street coffee giant said on Twitter: "We are facing some supply chain issues just now.

"We're working hard to resolve this ASAP".

The company - a main rival to Starbucks and Cafe Nero - is known for its hot and cold drinks, as well as breakfast items and lunchtime snacks but is now offering a reduced menu due to supplier issues.

The update comes after McDonald's was the latest to be hit by supply woes after Nando's was last week forced to shut around 50 restaurants across the UK amid a chicken shortage. It blamed staffing shortages at suppliers and a reduced number of lorry drivers.

High street giants across a raft of sectors in the UK have been battling with a supply chain crisis due to a shortage of lorry drivers following post-Brexit EU immigration rules, Covid 19 lockdown measures and also self-isolation rules.

The supply pressures have also been affecting supermarkets in recent weeks, while manufacturers have reported sharp increases in the prices of raw materials.

Business groups representing the retail and transport sectors have been calling for the Government to review plans not to grant temporary work visas to drivers from the EU.
