Costa announces new rules for who can use drive thrus as stores reopen

Over the past couple of weeks, many of the nation's favourite food and drink places have reopened for delivery and drive thru services.

As well as KFC, (and soon) McDonald's, Costa has also opened a select amount of stores in the UK, with some offering drive thru services.

However, as stores opened this weekend, social media was flooded with people complaining of long queues in several Costa Drive-Thrus.

One annoyed social media user, Nicola Jane Sharp, said: " @CostaCoffee is it essential that a drive thru coffee should be open? Sittingbourne drive thru encouraged people to make unnecessary journeys and caused horrendous congestion."

Responding to Nicola, Costa has now set the record straight, and confirmed that Drive-Thrus are meant for key workers only.

It said: "Hey Nicola, our number one priority is the safety of our store teams and customers.

"In line with the re-opening of a small number of drive-thru lanes and delivery stores this weekend, we’ve ensured strict measures have been put in place aligned to Government guidelines.

"We’d like to reinforce that our-drive thru lanes are open to offer key workers the chance to enjoy a Costa on essential journeys, whilst our delivery stores allow customers the opportunity to order a Costa from the comfort of their own home."
