Cost of school lunches in South Lanarkshire goes up

South Lanarkshire Council has this week unveiled a price increase for school lunches.

Meals for P4-7 pupils increased by 5p on Tuesday, taking the cost from £1.65 to £1.70.

P1-3 pupils still eat for free with some P4-7 and secondary pupils entitled to a free school meal if the family are in receipt of certain benefits.

South Lanarkshire Council have been working hard to improve their school meals service in an effort to encourage children to eat healthier.

Primary school menus consist of a three course meal, including starter, main meal/snack, fresh fruit or yoghurt, and children also have access to unlimited bread, salad and vegetables to supplement their meal.

Two East Kilbride eateries named in top restaurant awards shortlist

The secondary school menu includes a range of meal options available from breakfast, mid morning and lunchtime, and this week signified the start of the summer menu.

Detailed information on allergens and nutritional content is included on the menu items served over breakfast, mid morning and lunchtime.

Pupils can also ‘beat the queue’ by pre-ordering and paying for their meal in the morning, before picking it up during lunch break avoiding queuing.
