Cost of Marco Silva's Everton sacking confirmed in latest club accounts

The change of coaching staff from Marco Silva's backroom team in December 2019 cost Everton £6.6m, the club revealed in their latest accounts.

The Portuguese boss became the new manager of the Blues in the summer of 2018 following the departure of Sam Allardyce, signing a three-year contract at the time.

However, a string of poor results leading up to the winter of 2019 had Silva on the brink of losing his job, before a 5-2 loss away to Liverpool at the beginning of December confirmed his sacking.

Duncan Ferguson took interim charge of the side for their next four matches before Carlo Ancelotti was announced as the new permanent boss, managing his first match on Boxing Day against Burnley.

And, as part of the club's latest accounts, Everton have revealed the cost of changing the coaching staff.

Listed under "Amounts payable to former employees in relation to change in coaching staff", a figure of £6.6m was revealed.

The majority of that pay-out is believed to be for Silva himself, how had around 18 months remaining on a contract which was believed to be worth around £3.5m-a-year.

That addition to player and management trading contributed to the club announcing record losses of £139.9m on Friday evening.

Of that figure, £67.3m can be directly attributed to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic which has had an effect on all clubs across the country.
