Cost of living: Penneys launch free sewing classes in store for shoppers

Penneys fans will soon be able to avail of free sewing classes in some of their favourite stores.

The fashion retailer will host a series of monthly workshops, starting in April, which will promote sustainable fashion. Shoppers can learn how to stitch up torn or frayed items of clothing at no additional cost.

The so-called 'Love it for Longer' workshops have been launched as part of the Primark Care Strategy. Each class will have a 15 person capacity and will be taught by local experts.

Director of Primark Care Lynne Walker said: "Our goal is to strengthen the durability of our clothes and keep clothes in use for longer as part of our commitment to become a more circular business. Educating customers on repair is one small step forward in our journey."

The project has enjoyed previous success in countries such as the UK, the Netherlands and Germany. People will learn simple but invaluable techniques, such as replacing buttons and simple stitching.

Primark will provide additional information on the participating stores closer to April. The sessions will run for an hour and places can be booked online.
