Cost of Living at Hampstead Theatre: First look at pictures of Adrian Lester in Pulitzer-winning play

The first pictures of Adrian Lester in the UK premiere of Cost of Living at the Hampstead Theatre have been released.

He is co-starring in Martyna Majok’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play alongside US Paralympian Katy Sullivan, as an unemployed trucker caring for his disabled wife.

The cast is completed by Jack Hunter, playing a wealthy academic with cerebral palsy who hires a new carer, Emily Barber.

Lester, who returns to the stage after a three year absence, told the Standard that the drama is a “brilliant” story about “love and loneliness and trying to make connections”.

“There is a lot to get right but it is just a fantastic piece. I knew nothing about it, my agent sent it to me and said this is for Hampstead, a place I’ve never works, and I started reading it and I got hooked.”

He was last seen on the London stage in Red Velvet in 2016, and three years previously won acclaim for his Othello at the National Theatre.

Edward Hall directs the play, with design by Michael Pavelka, lighting by Matt Haskins, sound by Paul Groothuis and compositions by Simon Slater.

Sullivan returns to her role, after Cost of Living won the Pulitzer for its run off-Broadway in 2017.

Cost of Living runs at the Hampstead Theatre from January 31-March 9, hampsteadtheatre.com
