The internet is a dark place sometimes: host to prejudice and anger, an open marketplace for exploitation, child porn, illicit drugs and weapons. It’s a vehicle for our voyeurism and social–media fuelled narcissism. Our behaviour is tracked, then sold to advertisers, while security agencies have the freedom to spy on us. So should we defend the internet or destroy it? And what does it offer in terms of political freedom, social mobility, privacy, big data, or political change?
Science fiction author Cory Doctorow and broadcaster Alan Brough will unpack the questions at The Interrobang: A festival of questions – before the cat pictures get out of hand.
