A Corsock potter has won a national award.
Slipware potter Hannah McAndrew, right, has been named Maker of the Year at the UK Heritage Crafts Awards.
Hannah and partner Doug Fitch, who is also a potter, made the trip to the House of Lords in London for a winners reception, which was opened by Heritage Crafts’ co-chair and presenter of The Repair Shop Jay Blades MBE.
Hannah served an apprenticeship with Dumfriesshire slipware potter Jason Shackleton, and has run her own workshop for the past 20 years.
She draws influence from the ancient British folk heritage of country pottery.
In 2021, a piece she made called This is England – made as a response to the racist abuse the England team suffered during the Euro 2020 football tournament – raised £3,900 for Fare Share and is now in the permanent collection of York Art Gallery’s Centre of Ceramic Art.
