Corrie viewers worried for Carla over hint she was sex worker during missing weeks of her life

Coronation Street fans are concerned for the much-loved Weatherfield icon Carla Connor following a hint about a possible past as a sex worker.

In tonight's Corrie, mystery girl Chelsey appeared to insinuate that the former Underworld factory boss had a dark secret from her missing weeks living on the streets last year.

Chelsey, who turned up at the Rovers Return where Carla is now working, is trying to blackmail her.

She's demanding £1,000 in return for drugs she claims Carla flushed down the toilet while they were living in the same squat.

"I'll tell your fella all about what you got up to during your little holiday with me," threatened Chelsey.

When Carla retorted that her man Peter Barlow 'wouldn't give a monkey's' if she had flushed drugs down the toilet Chelsley tried a different tack to put the wind up her.

"I didn't mean that. I mean what you had to do to survive on the street," she said menacingly.

And when Carla, played by Alison King, protested she didn't know what she was talking about she insisted: "Yeah you do, you know exactly what I'm talking about."

"So Carla Connor was a street worker," said one viewer on Twitter.

"OMG what exactly did Carla do? Prostitute herself? sell drugs?" asked another.

"Leave Carla alone," raged another viewer.

"Protect Carla Connor at ALL costs pls," tweeted another worried viewer.

Carla's time sleeping rough is hazy after she suffered a breakdown following the death of her half brother Aidan Connor and the collapse of her beloved factory, killing Rana Habeeb.

"Whatever you think I did okay, you're wrong," she told Chelsey.

But her blackmailer argued: "How do you know?

"You've already admitted the whole thing was a blur. All I want is my money back."

When Peter found out about the blackmail attempt he was furious and went after Chelsey to tell her to stay away from his partner.

"You're gonna crawl back to whatever little sordid hole you've been hiding in and you're going to stay there," he said.

He then reassured Carla that she won't be coming back.

But Chelsey was seen on the phone telling someone: "It's her alright and you need to get over here because she's saying she doesn't remember.

"As soon as she sees you she'll give us whatever we want."
