Corrie viewers say 'precious' character should be 'protected at all costs' following sweet moment in court

Coronation Street fans want one character to be 'protected at all costs' as he was involved in more emotional scenes.

Those who watched Wednesday night's double dose of the ITV soap may already know we're talking about Roy Cropper.

The iconic Weatherfield man was back on screen, showing his undying support for niece Nina Lucas.

Roy was parking up at the start of the episode as he planned to take Nina to court for the first day of Seb Franklin's murder trial.

As Nina rushed Roy to get her to the police station - to give a full account of what happened on the night of the attack, after she remembered each horrifying detail.

When they did arrive at court, they had time to wait before it was Nina's turn in the witness box.

In moving scenes, Roy revealed to Nina that he had bought her original clothes along in the hope she'd return to her gothic identity.

Nina ditched her look following the hate crime and Seb's subsequent death.

"May I ask you a question," Roy delicately asked his niece.

"Why are you still not dressing like you used to?"

"Because that started it," Nina replied.

"It gave them an excuse to pick on us, it gave them an excuse to insult us, attack us. Kill Seb."

"So they win?," he asked.

Roy told Nina he 'knows what it's like to be made fun of', but insisted he knew it wasn't the same as her experience.

"People have commented on the way I look. My hair, clothes," he added.

"Oh I know they just say it's harmless banter, but it can be very cruel."

While Nina didn't appear to agree with her uncle, what he said must have made a difference as she appeared in court with her black hair in tight ringlets, black lipstick and eyeliner.

"We all need a Roy in our lives - he must be protected at all costs. #Corrie," tweeted one.

Another said: "Protect Nina and Roy's bond at all costs. It's so beautiful and pure #Corrie."

"Roy encouraging Nina to be herself to show that the haters won't win is so beautiful. My heart is bursting #Corrie," a third added.

A fourth said: "Roy is precious omg, absolute gent #corrie."

"Roy breaks my heart. David Neilson is an incredible actor. #Corrie," another tweeted.

A fan added: "Did anyone else’s heart just MELT at Roy’s little wave to Nina #corrie."
