Corrie viewers cheering as arrests are made over Seb's death

Coronation Street fans have been in tears over the death of popular character Seb Franklin so they were cheering to see police swoop to make arrests.

Over a tense soap double bill fans were satisfied to see bully Corey Brent arrested on suspicion of the savage assault on Nina Lucas and the murder of her boyfriend Seb.

The dramatic moment happened after the vile teen attempted to frame schoolmate Kelly Neelan for the brutal hate crime attack screened on Friday night and wheedle his way out of any blame with a false alibi.

When a panicked Kelly told him they were in 'so much trouble' she was floored when he told her: "Not me. I wasn't there."

Corey, played by Maximus Evans, said he was going to use his girlfriend Asha Alahan as his alibi and claim they were watching a DVD together.

He warned Kelly to also find someone to cover for her, and as she desperately asked her foster mum Toyah Battersby if she would lie for her, the police arrived.

"They got Kelly!" applauded one fan on Twitter.

And just as Corey was feeling smug about his alibi, Asha turned on him.

Police visiting their flat had no choice but to arrest him after his girlfriend admitted that she had been with her friend Amy Barlow on the night of the attack.

Actress Tanisha Gorey who plays Asha led the cheers.

"Go onnn asha!!!!!" she tweeted.

"Well Done Asha!" said another viewer.

"Yes!! Good girl Asha," said another.

"Yay, Corey arrested for the assault & murder!" cheered another soap watcher.

However, Seb's grieving mum Abi was distraught to later see Corey out on the street saying he was going to stay with his parents after they were released under investigation.

Seb and Nina were turned on by a drunken gang including Corey and Kelly in last Wednesday's harrowing double bill inspired by the tragic death of goth Sophie Lancaster who was murdered in 2007 over her appearance.

They were chased home by the pair and their mates after Kelly was egged on to slap Nina across the face.
