Corrie viewers advise Leanne against awkwardly timed Christmas trip to France

Coronation Street viewers couldn't help but raise an issue with Leanne Battersby's Christmas plans.

She invented a trip to France to visit her mother Stella, amid her grief over the loss of her son Oliver.

Leanne didn't want to be around anyone on the first Christmas without her tragic son, who died last month.

Pretending she would be out of Weatherfield, she told partner Nick that she was going to France to see Stella so couldn't make their original plans.

Leanne isn't really going to France, which is for the best considering the latest coronavirus news.

The soap is filmed weeks in advance, so portraying the current guidelines on the show can be pretty hard.

With tiers and lockdown rules changing all the time, scenes are often already filmed before the updates.

This means despite them featuring the rules from the time the episode was filmed, by the time the scenes air there could be huge new restrictions in place.

Viewers are supportive of the show and are aware the episodes cannot be re-filmed, while many often take to Twitter to bring up when a particular scene might not follow the latest guidelines.

With the UK plunged into new tiers and even a Tier four this month, with two new variants of Covid-19 detected, many countries around the world including France have restricted travel to and from the UK.

So when Leanne announced she was heading to France on Christmas Day, fans certainly had some advice for her.

Of course the episode would have been filmed weeks ago, before the several tier changes and other issues had taken affect.

That didn't stop some viewers mocking the mistimed moment, trying to make light of a frustrating situation.

One viewer wrote: "Good luck in getting to France Leanne #corrie."

Another agreed: "Lol good luck getting to France Leanne #Corrie #ChristmasEve."

A third tweeted: "Sorry Leanne, I think you’ll be spending Christmas with Nick. Haven’t you heard of this new strain of Covid?! France have closed their boarders! #Corrie."

Another said: "I wonder when Nick will clock on that Leanne can’t travel to France because they’ve shut the borders."

Coronation Street continues at 7pm on ITV on Christmas Day.
