Corrie twist as villain Harvey survives sinkhole fall and has gun to kill Leanne

Coronation Street villain Harvey Gaskell lives on in a twist for Super Soap Week.

The ITV soap opera saw dangerous scenes for Leanne Battersby on Wednesday night as Harvey (Will Mellor) held Leanne hostage before she made a swift escape despite being bound and gagged.

Harvey pursued her as she tried to hide from him but he soon came face-to-face with her in the rain.

As he approached to hurt Leanne with the wrench he was holding, Harvey fell through the sinkhole and Leanne was saved.

Reunited with son Simon Barlow and sister Toyah Battersby, Leanne revealed what had happened and that she feared she was going to die.

However, the end of the episode showed that Harvey had washed up alive elsewhere and so had the gun that Abi Franklin had used to try and kill her son’s killer, Corey Brent.

Gaining consciousness and standing up, Harvey saw the gun and picked it up with a look of fury in his eyes.

Meanwhile, in an ambulance Leanne was looking terrified, saying: "I thought he was dead. Please God, let him be dead."

The scenes come after Leanne actress Jane Danson had hinted at her charatcer’s demise.

On Monday night, the Coronation Street official Twitter account shared a GIF of Harvey after his escape with the caption: “Here’s Harvey.”

In response, Jane Danson quoted the tweet and penned: “Well it’s been an incredible 24 years.”

The tweet, likely a tongue-in-cheek reference to Leanne’s precarious situation, however, caused a stir amongst her followers who are fearing for Leanne’s life.

One fan replied to her Tweet: “There will be national outrage if Leanne is killed off!”

A different Corrie viewer commented: “Hey! At least put a “spoiler alert” if you gonna tweet spoilers [winky-face emoji]”.

Jane replied to the tweet: “Oop’s”

*Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7.30pm on ITV with previous episodes available on ITV Hub.
