Corrie star Sam Retford warns fans not to fall victim to cruel trick by scammers

Coronation Street’s Sam Retford has urged fans to beware of falling prey to 'dangerous' imposters on social media.

The 22-year-old actor said cruel scammers have tried to lure fans of the soap into a fake meeting.

After catching wind of the scam, Sam deleted his Facebook and Twitter accounts saying "It take a strong-minded person to confront that every day."

"I’m not very present on social media other than Instagram. It’s a place for me to post pictures of me – with trees.

"I got rid of Facebook and Twitter. It’s negative and takes a very strong-minded person to confront that every day.

"I had incidents of people organising to meet up with a fake me – that could be dangerous," he told the Daily Star.

The actor said the scams are one of the downsides of fame after joining back the hit ITV show earlier this year.

Sam said obsessed trolls have even dragged him into arguments and attracted unwanted social media attention.

He says: "Messages come in and go from being complimentary, when they see you’re not engaging, then it becomes malicious. You can see it’s there to spark a reaction

"A lot of these people are doing this to get attention.”

Sam has attracted a huge fan base after starring as Curtis on Coronation Street (ITV)

Sam has been attracting drama on the soap to with his character Curtis, who is dating Steve McDonald's daughter Emma, battling a health condition.

The medical student ended his romance with Emma rather than open up to her about his woes.

Actor Sam teased revealed that Curtis' health condition will bring complications to his relationship with Emma in the coming months.

Sam revealed that Corrie writers have been keeping the cast on their toes with upcoming scripts.

"There’s continued turbulence like we’ve seen already. Emma never seems to get an easy ride," he added.

"With his condition as it is at the moment, to balance that and a booming relationship, is always going to be difficult.

"There’s lots to come, which is exciting.

"It’s a Game Of Thrones moment waiting for the script to come in."
