Corrie star Sam Aston hints at I'm a Celeb stint as he admits he's open to reality shows

Sam Aston has teased that he could be set to feature on I'm A Celebrity after he had previously ruled out the prospect.

The actor, who's played Coronation Street's Chesney Brown since 2003, is now being tipped to follow in the footsteps of fellow stars of the cobbles Jennie McAlpine and Andy Whyment.

After ruling out any such appearance in the past, the 28-year-old star has admitted he is now "more open" to the idea.

He told OK! : "I’ve always said no to all of those shows, but then recently for some reason I've been more open to the idea. Jennie [McAlpine] and Andy [Whyment] did the jungle and both of them said it’s the experience of a lifetime.

"If I was offered it I would be open to the idea and open to the extra pennies!"

Jennie ended her series in 2017 in fourth place, while Andy was runner-up in 2019, so no doubt Sam would want to go one further if he were to appear on the show.

But he did admit that the thought of being on the show made him uncomfortable and confessed that he is very much a "home bird".

"It probably sounds quite soft as a lot of people work away, but I’ve never had to," he explained. "That side of it would be tough. I also don’t really want to be eating pig’s testicles!”

Sam became a dad for the first time in August last year after wife Briony Gardner gave birth to their son Sonny.

The childhood sweethearts tied the knot in 2019 in what he called the "perfect" day.

Sam described becoming a dad as "an out-of-body experience".

He explained that the pair endured a "rollercoaster experience" as Briony gave birth six weeks early.

However, as Sonny turned one earlier this month, Sam and Briony are pleased to say that the youngster is now doing "so well".

When asked if his character having quadruplets in a storyline had helped him prepare for fatherhood, Sam said: "I think it did for holding a baby, but it’s not like I’m getting up in the night and changing their nappies!

"They only bring them on set for the take, so I hold them for a bit and then they go off with a chaperone or their mum. I don’t think anything can prepare you for your first!"

And Sam confessed that while he may be open for new opportunities, he doesn't see himself leaving Coronation Street as it's a job he loves.
