Corrie star Rob Mallard reveals how Daniel and Justin's vicious fight scenes were filmed as he issues warning

Coronation Street fans were warned about scenes of violence ahead of Wednesday night's episode, and there was a punch-up on the famous cobbles as Daniel Osbourne and Justin Rutherford came face to face. Daisy Midgeley's stalker was confronted by her furious fiance, and tensions ran high in the ITV soap.

Bride-to-be Daisy's stalking nightmare intensified as she called the venue and rescheduled her wedding. Then the owner of her chosen bridal boutique called at the pub and told Daisy that they’ve had a call from Justin accusing her of assault and they were longer prepared to lend her a dress.

The influencer was gutted as the owner told her that bad publicity could damage their reputation. Then she and Daniel rowed as she thought he was blaming the ordeal on her being on social media.

Later, as she heard the doorbell and checked her app she was horrified to see it was Justin. Daisy ordered him to clear off but when she returned to the living room, she was shocked to find him standing there having got in the back door.

Arriving home at 1 Coronation Street, Daniel was shocked to see Justin and called the police. PC Craig Tinker explained that, unfortunately, the only thing Justin was guilty of was trespass.

Daisy was frustrated, and as Daniel’s clocked Justin lurking outside the pub he remarked that Daisy would be better off with cancer than engaged to Daniel. Daniel saw red and punched him repeatedly until Peter dragged him away.

Actor Rob Mallard who plays Daniel said the scenes were "good fun" to film. "I’ve not had the chance to do anything like that for a while so it was nice to do something physical," he said.

And the Oldham star, who has played Ken Barlow's son Daniel since 2016, revealed how they shot the scenes: "We had a fight arranger and a great director and it was shot on the street at night and I always think the street, the cobbles and the show looks it’s best at night… especially if it’s a little bit rainy! We all had a great time shooting it, those scenes are always fun."

Asked 'what’s the most challenging part of shooting stunts like this?' he said: "It depends on the size of the stunt, but the aspect that I most look forward to is, if it’s a punch, it’s whether or not I can make it look really realistic."

"So when I am able to make a non-contact punch look like it did make contact, that’s when I go, 'oh, this is fun!” The most challenging thing about doing stunts is making sure I don’t lose my focus."

Rob has enjoyed showing a different side to bookish Daniel, saying: "It’s nice to see characters like Daniel doing things that aren’t necessarily wholesome all the time and I like the mixture of both sides of him because I think you need a bit of both. I think the viewers will think 'well, it’s about time that you did something! You should have done that weeks ago!'"

And Rob, 30, issued a warning as he teased that viewers may not yet have seen the worst from Justin. Asked 'do you think Daniel has underestimated how dangerous Justin is?' he replied: "Yes 100%! There is something quite unassuming about Justin, the things that he says and the way that he explains the reasons that he does things are actually quite simple.

"It’s not complex - he wants Daisy, he wants to be with Daisy and he wants Daisy to leave Daniel. For Daniel, he doesn’t think that Justin is hiding anything as he is very upfront about what he wants but what Daniel has underestimated is what lengths Justin will go to to get what he wants."

Daisy met Justin in December while she had a worrying wait for her test results following a cancer scare. The Rovers Return barmaid had discovered a lump in her breast and was at the hospital with Daniel.

She and Daniel were seated in the waiting room for her appointment when Daniel went to get them a cup of tea. Justin noticed that Daisy was upset and went to sit with her. After they got talking, he told her that he was there with his mother, who has terminal cancer.
