Corrie star reveals newcomer Damon is 'one to watch' as Harvey link exposed

Coronation Street newcomer Damon Hay will "bring a lot of drama", Amy Barlow actress Elle Mulvaney teased.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, the actress spilled that the dad of Jacob Hay was "one to watch" as she hinted his arrival could impact a number of characters.

It follows the major twist this week that Damon is the brother of criminal Harvey Gaskell - making Harvey Jacob's uncle.

On Monday night, fans learned the truth leaving them stunned - given Harvey was introduced as Jacob's boss last year.

Harvey groomed Jacob into a life of crime, having him deal drugs and pills for him - while he also nearly had him killed when he tried to flee.

This news left Damon horrified, and he arranged for his secret sibling Harvey to be attacked in prison.

Fans also saw Damon begging Jacob for another chance, while he later hinted he would bring trouble to Nick Tilsley's door over the money Harvey gave him - which actually belonged to Damon.

Now, actress Elle has teased what's ahead for the character, and told us viewers should watch out for the new possible villain.

She said: "It's going to be really interesting when Jacob's dad Damon comes onto the show. He's going to bring a lot of drama.

"He's definitely going to be one to watch and I think it's going to get really interesting when we start to discover more things about Jacob's family.

"I think that's going to have an impact with Jacob and Amy so we'll have to see what's going to happen with that. We hope for happiness but there's going to be drama."

Ciaran Griffiths was announced to be playing Damon recently, and made his debut on the ITV soap this month.

Speaking about his new role, Ciaran said: "I’m happy to be back in Manchester to see my family and friends after being away in Australia for the last 3 years. The city has changed so much! And what better way to tie it in with a stint on the Cobbles.

"I watched Corrie as a kid and it’s great to be back with some old friends both cast and crew. I’m loving having the opportunity to work with some quality Northern actors whose work I have long admired, particularly on such a complex character like Damon."

This isn't the actor's first stint on the show though. Back in 2000, he played criminal Dean Sykes, the younger brother of Linda Sykes, who used a gun to try and rob Freshco.

Coronation Street Producer Iain MacLeod added of Ciaran's arrival as Damon: "Having Ciaran on board is so exciting and especially because the character he is playing is so interesting.

"Damon is charming and likeable on the surface but we will soon see he is much more complicated than that as he goes on to have an explosive impact, both in Jacob’s life and beyond."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
