Corrie star reveals huge 2023 storyline for Billy Mayhew set to run for months

Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has revealed a "big" and "meaty" new storyline is on the way for his character Billy Mayhew on the ITV soap.

The actor teased huge scenes ahead in 2023, in a storyline that is set to run for 12 to 18 months, if not longer.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Daniel hinted at exciting times ahead as his character takes centre-stage for the new plot in the new year.

He spilled: "We're just at the beginning now of a rather big storyline for Billy, so I am looking forward to the next 12-18 months."

Teasing it could involve his exes Todd Grimshaw and Paul Foreman, he hinted: "Well, maybe you’ll be pleased, maybe you won’t. I don't know I literally can't give anything away!"

Daniel went on: "I'm in my ninth year here now. I've never worked anywhere for longer than two years, ever. I've been doing this for a living for nearly 30 years, but this is by far the longest I have worked anywhere. I adore it here, I love it here.

"You can coast for a bit so obviously there are years where you are not in storylines, but it is always lovely when they give you something meaty or fun."

On if Billy could find himself killed off anytime soon, he went on: "I hope not, I've got a mortgage!"

Meanwhile, the star also revealed a "sinister" twist about newcomers Mike and Esther, amid the ongoing baby surrogacy storyline.

The actor promised "twists and turns" ahead, as he teased Mike and Esther's real identities – suggesting fans could be on to something.

The couple joined the soap not too long ago, and after learning Billy's adopted daughter Summer Spellman was pregnant and wasn't sure she wanted to keep the baby, they took action.

Sharing their struggles with fertility and their desperation to have a child, they paid Summer £10,000 to hand over her child when they were born.

Summer agreed, but sadly she suffered a miscarriage – something she is still keeping from Mike and Esther, despite taking their money.

Upcoming scenes will see the couple proposition Summer in exchange for her keeping the £10k – as they ask her to be their surrogate.

Billy actor Daniel has spilled there is something going on with the mystery couple – as fans have been guessing.

He explained: "We have got lots of stuff coming up. We're in the middle of the surrogacy stuff, that’s on screen now but the stuff we're shooting now won’t be on screen until February.

"Oh I can't say anything, they are obviously… there’s something a little bit sinister about them I think, and watching them on screen... a lot of their scenes were without me so it’s interesting to see it unfolding as a viewer.

"But there will be plenty of twists and turns before the storyline finishes, yeah."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
