Corrie star relives I'm A Celeb jungle experience... in Manchester

Coronation Street star Andy Whyment has relived his I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here experience without having to travel to the other side of the world.

The actor, best known for playing Kirk Sutherland in the ITV soap, appeared on the reality show back in 2019 - the last year the show was in Australia before the coronavirus pandemic.

Andy was a latecomer into camp and quickly became a big hit among viewers and was hot favourite to win the entire series but after 11 million votes were cast, it wasn't meant to be.

He just missed out on the King of the Jungle title to ex-EastEnders star Jaqueline Jossa in the live final leaving many of the Salford star's fans crushed.

But Andy, 40, got to enjoy another go at the Jungle experience - sort of.

The soap star headed to Salford Quays to help ITV's new I'm A Celebrity Jungle Challenge.

He was there alongside fellow former campers Fatima Whitbread and AJ Pritchard for the launch of the attraction, based on the hit show, which was due to open last year before Covid put a stop to the plans.

Fans of the TV favourite will, however, have to wait until Friday, July 30, to give it a go themselves.

Sharing snaps with his Instagram followers from the experience, Andy said: "Had such a great day @iacjunglechallenge at the Lowry in Manchester if you’re a fan of @imacelebrity I highly recommend going there’s so much to do you’ll have a fantastic time."

Based at Quayside, MediaCityUK - formerly known as The Lowry Shopping Centre - the much-anticipated indoor attraction promises to 'take Campmates into the heart of the jungle to navigate a series of fun-filled physical challenges, inspired by the blockbuster ITV show'.

It features all the key moments from a campmates experience - Main Camp, the Throne and Winner's Bridge.

But more importantly, visitors can scale The Ascent - an 8.1m vertical rock climb, reach dizzy heights racing across the suspended Treetop Trail, scramble nets, balance on beams and swing round the Jungle Run, take a leap of faith on Get a Grip and glide through the trees on a Zipline, all as part of timed trials.

And all without critters and creep crawly in sight.
