Corrie star Maureen Lipman on how she coped with losing beloved partner to Covid

Corrie’s Maureen Lipman says art therapy has helped her cope with the loss of her partner Guido Castro.

Guido, her partner for 13 years, died at the start of the year after contracting coronavirus in a care home while suffering from Parkinson’s.

Maureen says: “I just painted him and painted him and painted him until I got it out of my system.

“It is therapeutic. I still paint him – I still often find myself doodling his face.”

Maureen, who plays Evelyn Plummer on the Cobbles, says she found the art therapy to be beneficial.

“It changes you,” says the actress.

“My experience is just one of thousands of feeling bewildered and out on a limb. The residual pain, the grief, I let it drip out inclemently. Sometimes I can’t sleep.”

Maureen’s husband, Corrie writer Jack Rosenthal, died in 2004 and she added: “I don’t think about anything except how lucky I was to have had two such wonderful men.”

Maureen, 75 years young, was one of the judges for yesterday’s Oldie of the Year awards, which was attended by the Duchess of Cornwall and 1966 World Cup legend Sir Geoff Hurst.

However she had to miss the swish event at the Savoy hotel in London while filming in Manchester.
