Corrie star Lisa George explains why she has spent little time on screen

Coronation Street star Lisa George has opened up about suffering a mini stroke which left her half-blind in one eye.

And she also explained why she has spent little time on screen this year.

Lisa, who plays Beth Sutherland in the ITV soap, haemorrhaged behind her optic nerve four years ago and the incident left lasting damage to her vision in her right eye.

Lisa, who also has type 2 diabetes, told  The Sun  about the health scare and the permanent affect it has had, and says she still doesn't know exactly what led to the damage.

"I haemorrhaged behind my optic nerve four years ago and I'm half-blind in my right eye, they said it was like a stroke but also I got hit in the eye with a bit of rope," the 50-year-old actress said.

"They think I'd had some mini-stroke but a specialist said it has to be the rope, I still don’t know."

Corrie fans may have also noticed Lisa's absence on the cobbles.

Due to her type 2 diabetes, Lisa has spent much of the coronavirus pandemic shielding.

She did return to the set when filming restarted in September and October but revealed she won't be returning until later next year.

Lisa's character Beth has been the life of the street since her arrival back in 2011.

Beth is married to one of the soap's other much-loved characters, Kirk Sutherland, played by Andy Whyment.
