Corrie star Jennie McAlpine forced to temporarily close Manchester tearoom following Covid case

The Manchester tearoom owned by Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine has had to temporarily close its doors after a staff member tested positive for Covid.

Annie's, a charming tearoom located in the Royal Exchange building in the city centre, has also had several other team members ordered to self-isolate by the NHS Test and Trace service.

The business will remain closed until Monday June 21.

Announcing the news on its social media channels, a statement from Annie's stressed that the business has followed 'the strictest of safety procedures'.

They added that customer safety is of 'paramount importance'.

Jennie's Coronation Street bosses have confirmed that the closure has not affected the actress filming on the soap.

A spokeswoman said: "Jennie has not been at the restaurant so she is not required to self isolate and she is able to carry on with filming."

Annie's is owned by Jennie and her husband Chris Farr, and the actress had spoken of how pleased they were to be able to reopen the venue on May 17, saying on Twitter: "So pleased our brilliant restaurant team can get back to doing what they love."

She also shared a tweet from the restaurant two weeks after their busy reopening, saying: "We’re loving seeing all our old friends and lots of new ones!"

Jennie is one of Corrie's best-loved stars having played Fiz Stape on the cobbles since 2001.

She is currently involved in one of the soap's biggest storylines with Fiz devastated to have been betrayed by her long-term partner Tyrone Dobbs who has left her for Alina Pop.

The exes are set to be locked in a bitter custody battle for their children Hope and Ruby.

The full statement from Annie's says: "We must announce that unfortunately we will have to close until Monday 21st June.

"This is due to a positive case of Covid-i9 amongst our team and other members being instructed to self isolate by NHS test and trace.

"We have been following the strictest of safety procedures since opening and everyone's safety is of paramount importance to us, which is why we have taken this decision.

"We will be in touch with those with bookings as soon as we can.

"If you need to contact us please email bookings@anniesmanchester.co.uk as we will not be on site. Thank you. Stay safe."

Other high-profile closures due to self-isolating staff in the last fortnight have included Gary Usher's Kala, The Old Wellington pub, The Blues Kitchen and Crazy Pedro's.
