Corrie star distracts from serious storyline with cute family addition

Coronation Street star Charlie De Melo is currently taking centre stage in the ITV soap but away from the Cobbles he's also got his hands full with a new family addition.

Charlie, who plays Imran Habeeb, is currently doing everything he can to clear Kelly Neelan's name as she stands trial accused of the murder of Seb Franklin.

The builder was attacked back in May alongside Nina Lucus but died in hospital from his injuries - reports the Manchester Evening News.

After being charged, Imran has been working night and day to clear Kelly's name as he stood by her account of what happened.

On Monday, viewers saw that Kelly wasn't the one to attack Seb, but was present at the time.

A heartbroken Nina recalled every moment from the night of the brutal attack and admitted to seeing Corey dealing the horrific blows as Seb laid defenceless on the floor.

And Imran is about to take no prisoners as he vowed to not make it easy for Corey.

As he was confronted by Dev Alahan who called him a 'bully' for the way he treated daughter Asha in the stand, Imran said: "Do you want to see what I can really do?

"Come by court tomorrow. Because what I did to Asha today is nothing compared to what I’m going to do to Corey."

Viewers were left stunned by Imran's change in character and it couldn't be further from actor Charlie's life right now.

The 29-year-old has been keeping his social media followers up to date on the arrival of some new addition to his family.

Charlie revealed earlier this week that his dog Sarah had given birth to a litter of puppies.

Documenting the stages on Instagram, he wrote: "Year 1-S Day 0/1. 'Babies having Babies' Well done my Sarah."

"(Photo Description. Sarah the Golden Retriever 'smiling' during her labour and then progressively looking more and more confused and shocked as each puppy is born. She has no idea what to make of them! There are six black and three golden.

"The final photo is them laying together in a box like little furry piano keys)."

He has since been sharing daily updates, and seflies, of himself with the teeny tiny pups.

On Tuesday he shared: "Day 2. There's a Bruce, loose, aboot this horse.

"(Photo Description. Me holding up Bruce, one of our little pups. He and the rest of his siblings are black lab/retriever crosses. He looks like a tiny, sleepy Bat)."

Then his latest update today on Thursday fans were introduced to another pooch.

" Day 3. White Woman's Instagram.

"(Photo Description. Me holding one of our golden pups up to my face. A tiny, single daisy perched on their head like a little flower crown.)"

Sally Carmen, who plays Corrie's Abi Franklin, is among his co-stars commenting on the posts.

On the one of little Bruce she wrote: "Is that one mine?"

Former soap star Catherine Tyldsley added: "My heart," alongside multiple love heart eyes emojis.

And fans are equally as distracted.

One said: "Oh such adorable cuteness."

Another said: "Omg!!!!! What a little cutie pie."

A third said: "Cute…. And the puppy is too."

A fourth added: "What a lovely pair."

Another even suggested: "This needs to be a Coronation Street themed litter, they all need to be given cute Corrie names!"

But Charlie says they've decided against it.

He replied: "We actually toyed with the idea of a corrie litter before realising that might be a bit cringe.

"We did manage to settle on a Roy and a Stanley before that though so we've got some representation in there!"

This isn't Charlie's first time with a bunch of puppies.

Earlier this year he showed off seven puppies after his dog Toto gave birth and the litter of puppies went on to be trained to become guide dogs.

He said in a post in June.

"Full disclosure, I didn’t start uploading any of the photos or videos of the pups until after they had already left us. The number of thefts during lockdown was such that it was ill-advised for me to even run a small risk of them being taken from us.

"They’ve been in their new homes for several weeks and they’re all doing well. We’re getting regular 'pup-dates' from their Puppy Walkers, for which I’m very grateful."

"If you are able and interested, there are many ways to support @guidedogsuk . If these kinds of journeys and stories meant something to you and you’d like to help tell them, that’s a good way to do it."
