Corrie star Andy Whyment is new I’m a Celebrity favourite after leaving viewers in stitches

Coronation Street fans already knew before he stepped into the jungle that Andy Whyment was going to be must-see viewing on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

And on Thursday night the Cobbles favourite didn’t disappoint with his hilarious antics as he headed into the Australian jungle on the ITV show - so much so he’s now the bookies’ favourite to win.

The actor, aka Kirk Sutherland, was joined by fellow latecomer Cliff Parisi, who is best known as Minty Peterson in EastEnders, to battle a Bushtucker trial called Frontier of Fear.

Dressed in cowboy attire, they headed to Ol’ Dingo Town as ‘jungle outlaws’ in a bid to win gold stars for the main camp before heading to the jungle jailhouse.

From the off, Andy, 38, had viewers - and hosts Ant and Dec - in stitches as he tried to source five gold stars while rummaging in a shop called General Gore full of offal, worms and fish guts.

“This is nice,” he said as he entered the grim room with pigeons flying about his head.

Corrie fans were likely amused by Andy’s Kirk-isms as he offered a running commentary during his search.

But it was when Cliff did his part of the trial that Andy had viewers dying with laughter.

“I love this show,” said Andy. “I have been a fan of this show since series one.”

As Cliff was braving putting his hands in holes with critters in, Andy was zero help, and instead had a fit of the giggles for the most part.

He said: “I can’t help it, sorry Cliff. It’s just making me laugh, I feel like I’m watching the TV at home.”

As Cliff put his hands in another hole, Ant and Dec advised that there were fish guts in there.

“Fish guts!” Andy howled.

When Cliff had finished his trial, Andy said: “I’m sorry I wasn’t much help.”

Viewers spoke of their delight on Twitter, with many hailing him their favourite celeb.

One said: “Andy Whyment has only been in the jungle 5 minutes and he has already made me laugh way more than anyone else has in the past 5 days. The hero we didn't know we needed.”

A second said: “I’ve never seen someone more like their TV character than Andy Whyment and I bloody love him.”

A third posted: “10 mins in and I think Andy Whyment might be my favourite ever #ImACeleb contestant.”

“Calling it now. Andy Whyment is gonna win I'm A Celeb this year,” agreed another.

A fourth called for viewers to vote for Andy to do more trials.

“The new celebrities only been on the show about twenty five minutes, and Andy Whyment has fast become my new favourite to win this year. Please, people, let's just vote him to do every trial because that was hysterical,” they said.

I’m A Celebrity continues tonight from 9pm on ITV.
