Corrie spoilers: Lydia gets Adam arrested ahead of 'knife-edge showdown' as actor teases exit

Coronation Street’ s Lydia Chambers is headed for an epic showdown with her ex-boyfriend Adam Barlow on the soap amid a schedule shake-up that will usher in a new round of dramatic storylines.

ITV announced its new schedule for an action-packed spring on the soap, which will put solicitor Adam (Sam Robertson) in an increasingly perilous position as his ‘bunny boiler’ ex seeks revenge for his treatment of her at university.

Adam Barlow is fighting for wife Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) after a Fatal Attraction-style sting executed by Lydia (Rebecca Ryan) left her convinced the two are having an affair - and will leave Adam in trouble with the police.

The latest ITV spoilers for spring’s storylines on the soap reveal that Adam could lose everything for something he hasn’t actually done.

Lydia is set to ramp up her cleverly orchestrated campaign of revenge as she succeeds in turning his wife against him.

She then goes one step further and gets Adam arrested - something which has been hinted at in spoilers for next week’s scenes on the soap.

When Adam calls in at Lydia’s having been thrown out by Sarah, she shouts at Adam to leave her alone as passers-by look on and then opens her door to reveal she’s trashed her house in another elaborate bid to set him up.

This comes as Coronation Street actor Sam Robertson has hinted he may quit the ITV soap over his current Fatal Attraction-style storyline, after he returned to the cobbles six years ago.

The actor, 36, has said he feels the Lydia story is too similar to when Adam cheated with Carla Connor at the end of 2020.

He said: “Sometimes you pick up a script and I feel like I am doing that same scene as I did 12 months ago.

“At first, I was a little bit troubled by it because we did a storyline when Adam had a fling with Carla. I don’t know if it’s too soon for more of that?

“Tina and I have gone from working together and a lot of harmony to suddenly being at each other’s throats. So it’s been really tough to do that again so soon.

“Sometimes it’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, it has been five and a half months that we’ve been in this storyline.

“I definitely feel like it needs to recalibrate. Who is this character I’m playing now? With the confusion Adam is feeling, I’m kind of feeling that myself as an actor.”

Meanwhile, amid the schedule shake-up which will put Corrie in direct competition with EastEnders, producer Iain MacLeod said it’s an “exciting time” for the show.

He said: “These stories will propel us into the hour-long era with a bang and all the characteristic drama, humour, twists and intrigue that Corrie viewers have come to expect.

“We’ve got heart-stopping, high-stakes drama for Sarah, featuring a knife-edge showdown between Adam and his tormentor Lydia, which will leave you wondering which one’s the bad guy. All of this in one big serving per night. What’s not to love?”

It looks like Adam may be about to lose his liberty and his career but as Lydia’s vendetta continues is his life in danger too?
