Coronation Street is set to delve into the backstory of the Metcalfe family as evil Geoff’s treatment of his wife starts to unravel.
The ITV soap’s boss Iain MacLeod has confirmed that viewers will finally get a glimpse of Tim’s upbringing while finding out that this is far from Geoff's first abusive relationship.
Fans of the show have been left disgusted by Geoff’s torturing of Yasmeen, and on Friday she snapped and hit back after he threatened her with a knife.
Yasmeen grabbed a bottle and hit him on the head before sticking the broken end of it into Geoff’s neck, believing she had killed him before phoning 999.

She was then arrested for assault after it transpired that Geoff was still alive and is set to stand trial over it.
As viewers wait for the fall out to the incident, and Yasmeen’s fate, Iain explained that Geoff’s backstory was important to examine.
“In reality it would be highly unlikely that this is the first time Geoff had exhibited these behaviours in a relationship,” he said.
“What we have discovered via our research is that men - or indeed women - often have a kind of cyclical pattern of behaviour.

“They meet somebody, love bomb them and be the consummate gentleman, lure them in with grand romantic gestures and presence and be ultra supportive, funny and charming.
“That will gradually give way over a period of time to the kind of abusive controlling behaviour we have seen with Geoff and Yasmeen.
“But when that relationship breaks down, they will move on to somebody else and resume the same kind of pattern of behaviour.
“So it felt right that we look back at Geoff's previous relationships in some detail and discover that he's done this before.”
Along with Geoff’s past, viewers will get to find out more about his son Tim, who is married to Weatherfield legend Sally, and according to Iain has in his own way been "brainwashed and gaslighted" by his dad since birth.
The soap’s best loved couple’s marriage is set to be tested as both of them take opposing sides as Geoff’s abuse starts to be realised.
Sally will take Yasmeen’s side, along with Alya Nazir, while Tim will support his dad.

Iain said: “There'll be a lot of interesting exploration of Geoff's backstory which will obviously entail a lot of interesting exploration of Tim’s backstory, who is very well beloved of our audience.
“It's a good opportunity for us to find out a bit more about him and how he's become the man he is and a bit more about his family backgrounds.
“There will be lots of family saga stuff to come as a result of what Alya and the police and everyone else start to discover about Geoff’s past.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7.30pm on ITV.
