Corrie's Will Mellor says he was mistaken for drug lord character in pub

Coronation Street star Will Mellor has detailed how he gets mistaken for his on-screen character - and its quite extreme.

Soap villains often find themselves being shouted out or given the odd stare in the street because of the role they're portraying.

But it has gone one step further for Will, who joined the ITV soap earlier this year as drug lord Harvey Gaskell.

His arrival came as Leanne Battersby, played by Jane Danson, finds herself forced into a dangerous world of drugs in a bid to protect her son Simon Barlow.

Things, however, quickly got out of hand and both Simon and Leanne's lives were put in danger.

Now behind bars after Leanne turned to the police, Harvey is out for revenge and is trying to intimidate Leanne from the inside to stop her giving evidence at his upcoming trial.

But it appears his on-screen life got muddled with his real one when he took a trip to the pub recently.

"It was funny," Will told The Sun on Sunday. "I went to the local pub and someone said to me, 'Have you got owt? Have you got owt, Harvey?' and I was like, 'What are you talking about?'.

"I've also had a few women who've said, 'I hope you're not selling drugs around here'.

"I'm like, 'Stop saying that, people will overhear'."

In Sunday night's episode, Corrie viewers saw Leanne determined to bring Harvey down after he got one of his heavies to give the family a stark warning about who they are messing with.

This week, it is time for Leanne to face Harvey in court. But the big question is, will she go ahead with telling them all about Harvey's drug business? Or has his intimidation scared her away?

There's also a twist as Harvey's aunt Sharon Bentley is called as a witness, giving a damning report of Harvey's violent nature and how he exploits vulnerable children for his own gain.
