Corrie's Toyah Battersby actress teases prison twist after Imran murder bombshell

Coronation Street star Georgia Taylor has teased a possible prison twist for her Toyah Battersby, after a death bombshell.

Spoilers have revealed the Corrie favourite confesses to deliberately crashing her car earlier this year, with the accident leading to the death of her husband Imran Habeeb.

Toyah has always claimed she didn't remember what happened in the moments before impact, and has insisted she would not have deliberately harmed Imran.

But next week, the character confesses she knew what she was doing behind the wheel, and that she crashed the car on purpose and intended to kill Imran.

Now, speaking to The Mirror and other press, actress Georgia has reacted to this bombshell and teased a prison twist could be on the cards.

She said: "I've said all along I really want a prison storyline. I just think that it looks like so much fun; and I think it could go one of two ways because Toyah's got this counselling background, she could become someone that the fellow inmates come to and she's very supportive.

"Or she could just be bullied, like massively! I could just see her really getting bullied - she'd need to find some of that Battersby spirit to get through time in prison. If that were to happen, I think the writers could feasibly go either way with it."

On the death twist, she went on: "It was only really confirmed when I got that batch of scripts that you’re talking about now and I was like, 'Oh, okay, so she did.'.

"The thing is, I still think it’s a grey area, I still think it’s very interesting because she didn’t get in the car meaning to kill him or hurt him, absolutely not.

"The way I’m trying to understand it is that she had a few seconds where the red mist descended and she completely just lost her mind for a second and I guess in the same way that someone could punch someone in a moment of rage or despair."

Georgia added: "I guess just a slightly more extreme version of just someone driving a car and just going “I don’t care what happens” and then boom, before you know it, they’ve hit the building.

"I can’t say should she go to prison or not because I could give you an argument for both. I’m just hoping that the audience find that challenging and interesting and not frustrating because I understand sometimes people want things to be quite clear cut and this isn’t."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
