Corrie's Tommy Orpington actor has soap past and is related to another star who fans will recognise

Coronation Street fans will be hearing about Tommy Orpington for a bit longer on the ITV soap.

The former Weatherfield County footballer is set to appear in court next week when Kelly Neelan and Corey Brent face trial over Seb Franklin's murder.

It was revealed that Tommy will provide a character reference for protege Corey, who was involved in the hate crime against Seb and girlfriend Nina Lucas.

Fans were horrified when the couple were set upon in a senseless attack because of the way Nina looked.

Next week, in a series of flashback scenes, viewers will find out who was really responsible with the blame currently being pointed at Kelly.

In Wednesday's night's Corrie double bill, fans heard how Jack Webster outed Corey's involvement in the case on a Tommy Orpington fan forum.

Despite Jack's mistake, Tommy will still support Corey.

While this may be his biggest involvement in a storyline to date, viewers have been used to seeing Tommy pop up from time to time.

He first appeared in the long-running ITV soap back in 2016 and has appeared in multiple episodes.

He was last seen in a meeting with Corey and his agent when Nina stumbled across them in a posh hotel.

Out for revenge, she accused Corey of murder, derailing the meeting, and leading to him later appearing at the cafe threatening her.

Tommy is played by actor Matt Milburn who is no stranger to the world of soap.

He appeared in Channel 4's Hollyoaks as Joe Spencer from 2003 until 2006 when he was dramatically killed of in a fire at The Dog in the Pond.

He's also not the only soap actor in his family as his brother is someone fans may well recognise.

Matt is the brother of fellow actor Greg Wood who Corrie viewers will remember as loan shark Rick Neelan.

The character was murdered by Gary Windass in 2019 with his daughter Kelly and estranged wife Laura Neelan none the wiser.

Gregg also appeared in Hollyoaks as gangster Trevor Royle, who had a busy life in the Chester village.

He left the show after three years in 2016 with Trevor being murdered by teenager Nico Blake on his wedding day to Grace Black.
