Corrie's Tina O'Brien 'feels lucky' to still have job as she was initially given 3 month contract

Coronation Street star Tina O'Brien has admitted she feels "incredibly lucky" to still be starring in the ITV soap.

Mum-of-two Tina first joined the cobbles back in 1999 and played the role of Sarah Platt up until 2007.

Tina reprised her role in 2015 and has been on the Street ever since, but her original contract wasn't that long.

Asked how she feels about having been on the soap for so long, Tina told press including The Mirror: "Oh wow, if I knew then what I knew now, I would have been over the moon.

"I think I got a three month contract to begin with and I was just hoping to get through the first three months here and hopefully stay."

She suggested that no one working in soap land is ever certain of how long their job will last.

"So nobody has any idea at all," she added. "I feel incredibly lucky to be where I am and be part of such a amazing family."

Speaking about her onscreen family, she reference her soap brother David - who is played by Jack P. Shepherd.

"He is actually funnier offscreen than he is onscreen, he’s brilliant," Tina revealed.

"He’s very funny, he’s very witty, he’s very dark, he’s just brutal. There’s no affection there with him at all, but he’s great!"

She also confirmed that Ben Price - who plays her other brother Nick Tilsley - is "the joker of the pack" and always has "everyone laughing" on set.

Tina said it can be difficult to film certain scenes now due to the social distancing rules.

"Part of your job is to be tactile, you’re meant to convey a certain emotion and without the ability to act as a couple, it can be tricky because then you’re trying to find other ways to convey those feelings while being at two metres," she said of certain scenes with her onscreen husband Adam Barlow, who is played by Sam Robertson.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
