Corrie's Sally Dynevor admits it took three years to accept Dancing on Ice offer

Sally Dynevor has told how it took her three years to pluck up the courage to join Dancing on Ice

The 58-year-old Corrie star said a fear of injury put her off taking part in the ITV show, which returns next month.

But she finally overcame her worries to pull on her skates for the new series.

Sally said: “It was just too scary, and I was worried about hurting myself.

“My younger daughter Hattie used to go, and I’d get a coffee and watch her from the side. But I’d never go on the ice. I was first asked about Dancing on Ice three years ago, but it’s taken me this long to pluck up the courage to do it.

Sally Dynevor is just one famous face looking to be crowned the new Dancing on Ice champion (ITV)

“The lockdowns were a factor in me deciding to take up the offer. They made me think I should take every opportunity that comes my way, as I don’t know how many more there will be.

“I thought, ‘I’ve got the chance to do this incredible thing, conquer my fears and learn a new skill while really getting out of my comfort zone.’ I knew if I didn’t take the opportunity now, I never would.”

But the actor, who has played Sally Webster for more than three decades in ITV’s Corrie, admitted she finds training for Dancing on Ice “extremely daunting”.

But she added: “I’ve really enjoyed it. My partner is Matt Evers, who’s been on from the very start of the show, so I really do feel like I’m in safe hands.”

Liberty Poole is one of the favourites to win the ITV show (ITV)

Love Island ’s Liberty Poole and Happy Mondays dancer Bez will also be among the celebs taking part in the series.

The last series, won by Capital FM presenter Sonny Jay, took place in the pandemic and a number of stars withdrew due to Covid or injuries.

We told earlier this week how show host Phillip Schofield said contestants with the best chance of winning are the young celebs because they are fearless.

He added: “We found the younger you are, then you have that bravery and you know, you go for it.”
