Corrie's Rovers Return pub will be closed when filming restarts to mirror real world

Corrie's Rovers Return pub is set to remain closed - even after filming resumes.

Production on the soap has ground to a halt amid the coronavirus outbreak, and now it's been reported that bosses want to show how COVID-19 has impacted life on the Cobbles.

A source told The Sun : "Producers think it would be slightly weird not to at least acknowledge the huge disruption the crisis has caused.

"How much it is acknowledged will all depend on when cast and crew are allowed back on set.

"They're hopeful they will be able to begin work on new episodes soon, but one way on nodding to the lockdown is shutting the Rovers."

An ITV spokesperson said: "There have been lots of discussions of various scenarios, any decisions will be taken when we return to filming.

"We also need to bear in mind anything that we film is weeks in advance of [transmission], so we need to be mindful of that.

"It will all depend on when we are allowed back."

Kirk Sutherland actor Andy Whyment recently told the United Podcast that he hopes to be back to filming by mid-June - else he fears the show may have to come off air for a time.

He said: "I think we've got until the beginning of July in the can. So we need to get back by the middle of June with a bit of luck otherwise it's going to go off air.

"A lot of the airlines have said they're going to start flying again mid-June so hopefully that's going to happen and we should be able to get back to work with a bit of luck, so fingers crossed."

Meanwhile, Cathy Matthews actress Melanie Hill told the WTAF - A This Country Podcast: "We were absolutely gutted when we had to stop filming.

"Bit it was getting weird...I was meant to be in filming, and I didn't feel happy about it to be honest.

"I was still going to go, but everyone was scared."
