Corrie's Peter Barlow shocked as he's dealt devastating blow about liver transplant

Coronation Street's Peter Barlow will receive some devastating news from doctors in upcoming scenes on the ITV soap.

Peter (Chris Gascoyne) will attend another hospital appointment next week, accompanied by Daniel (Rob Mallard) but sadly it's not a positive update.

When the consultant tells Peter that his liver hasn’t improved, they go on to confirm that he needs a transplant, but there’s no guarantee he’ll be eligible for one.

Understandably, Peter is shocked by the news but assures Daniel that he’s not going to give up - especially as he has his partner Carla Connor and son Simon to think about.

Corrie viewers will later see Peter break the sad news to Carla (Alison King) that his last hope is a liver transplant, but tells her that nothing will stand in the way of their wedding.

The upsetting scenes comes after Peter was rushed to hospital a few weeks ago and his loved ones wrongly accused him of falling off the wagon.

However, after Carla dumped him, doctors confirmed what he had been telling them all - he hadn’t touched a drop of alcohol.

After hearing the truth, Carla backtracked on her plans to leave Peter and told him: "I’m so sorry I should have listened to you. I let you down. I should have trusted you though."

Carla is now solely focused on supporting Peter through his alcohol recovery process and it's now emerged that she will even decide to quit the factory.

When Nick (Ben Price) reminds her they’ve got a meeting with Lucas (Glen Wallace), Carla insists he’ll have to go it alone as she’s not prepared to jeopardise her relationship with Peter.

When Sarah (Tina O’Brien) suggests that with Nick back at the factory, she is superfluous to requirements, Carla agrees and offers to terminate her contract.

Peter later spots Lucas getting into a taxi, but Carla assures him she wants nothing to do with Lucas and is quitting the factory to concentrate on him.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
