Corrie’s Nina Lucas cannot recall hate attack as she suffers life-changing injuries

Coronation Street 's Nina Lucas will have no memory of the horror hate attack that leaves her with "life-changing injuries", says soap expert Sharon Marshall.

Sharon appeared on This Morning on Tuesday and spoke to hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby about the devastating crime as Corey and his cronies beat Nina and her boyfriend Seb Franklin, because she is a goth.

A preview clip played of the heartbreaking moment Nina and Seb try to flee after standing up to the bullies, but are chased before things take a dramatic turn.

"It's a very brutal attack, it's so bad that she doesn't have any memory of what happened, the pair of them are in hospital with life-changing injuries," said Sharon.

"Will the right people be brought to justice? Will she remembered what happened? Dark scenes!" she added.

As Corey starts hurling abuse, Kelly Neelan finds herself egged on by the crowd and slaps Nina.

Seb and Nina hurry away as the gang gives chase and they find themselves subject to an unprovoked attack.

Back on the Street, Abi Franklin and Kevin Webster’s hen and stag night parties are brought to an abrupt halt when the police arrive with news of the attack.

As Abi and Roy Cropper rush to the hospital to be with Seb and Nina, the police start the investigation to get to the bottom of which of the teenage gang was responsible for the vicious assault that has left the young couple with horrific injuries.

The story will draw in the street’s other teens as Summer, Asha and Amy find themselves caught up in the aftermath as potential witnesses in the police inquiry.

Corey will try to persuade girlfriend Asha, who once dated Nina, to lie for him to the police - but will she agree or will she stand up for the truth?

Working alongside The Sophie Lancaster Foundation, Coronation Street decided to tell the hard-hitting storyline to explore social intolerance and prejudice so often suffered by people from stigmatised minority groups.

Sophie’s mum, Sylvia, set up the Sophie Lancaster Foundation in her daughter’s memory to focus on creating respect for, and understanding of, subcultures in our communities.

When the storyline was first discussed producers and the research team approached Sylvia who they said was delighted to be able to work with them to help highlight the issue.

Coronation Street Producer Iain MacLeod said the hard-hitting storyline will run across the rest of the year and beyond.

* This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am, Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV
