Corrie's Leanne Battersby branded 'vile' for cruel jibe at sister Toyah's infertility

Coronation Street fans were left fuming when Leanne Battersby made a cruel jibe at her sister Toyah.

Leanne is struggling to cope after her son Oliver was diagnosed with mitochondrial disorder, a terminal illness.

After Toyah tried to comfort her in Monday's episode Leanne lashed out, saying she wouldn't understand because she's unable to have children of her own.

The moment shocked Corrie viewers, who branded Leanne "vile" for the comment.

It all started when Leanne accidentally stood on Oliver's toy car and broke it, which left her shaking with rage.

Toyah suggested she try counselling or going to a support group to help her cope.

But Leanne lashed out, saying: "You can't help because you've got no idea what I'm going through because you're not a mother and you never will be."

Leanne quickly apologised by Toyah didn't accept it straight away.

"You know much I've wanted kids," she said.

"Yeah we all do," Leanne replied. "The IVFs, the surrogacy, I've lived through every moment - we all have.

"I feel for you I really do but you can't compare it to what I'm going through."

She added: "You can't grieve for something you've never had."

As Toyah stormed out Leanne told her: "You should be thankful you can't have kids."

The moment left viewers in shock.

One tweeted: "That was a horrible outburst from Leanne. Toyah did not deserve that at all. That was bang out of order."

"I feel for Leanne so much but what she just said to Toyah was vile," another posted.

A third wrote: "Finding it very hard to sympathise with Leanne right now!"
