Corrie's latest star stuns fans as they uncover past TV roles and other soap stints

Eagle-eyed Coronation Street viewers quickly recognised a new character during Monday night's offering of the ITV show.

Fans of the long-running soap quickly recognised newbie Ted from his past TV roles - including two previous stints on Corrie amongst other soaps.

Monday's visit to Weatherfield continued to explore the aftermath of Emma Brooker's decision to split with Curtis.

The character, played by Alexandra Mardell, was still tipsy at the start of the episode following her New Year's Eve party.

She was being driven home by friend Faye when they accidentally knocked over newcomer Ted as he made his way home from the shops.

Emma and Faye thought they had severely injured Ted but were relieved when he opened his eyes and invited them to his flat.

The two went back to his home to check up on him at the end of the episode, but were shocked to discover he had stopped breathing before they called an ambulance.

Viewers watching at home were slightly distracted from the dramatic scenes on Monday night, as they noticed who was playing Ted on screen.

"Is that Duggie Brown, comedian from back in the day. Real life brother of Ivy Tilsley (Gail’s ex mother in law)," one asked on Twitter as the ITV soap aired.

Another asked: "Maybe I’m showing my age (especially if I’m completely wrong), but I think that Ted, the pensioner who Faye and Emma knocked over, is played by Duggie Brown, the brother of Lynne Perrie, who played 'Poison' Ivy Tilsley."

"Aww it’s Duggie Brown. He’s been in loads of stuff," a third tweeted on Monday.

"Duggie Brown’s re-appearance in Corrie. Real life brother of Lynne Perrie who played the iconic Ivy Tilsley....." another eagle-eyed viewer recalled.

Born in South Yorkshire in 1940, Duggie has enjoyed a successful career as a comedian and actor over the years - starring in several stage productions as well as some of Britain's best loved TV shows.

Duggie, 81, made his first trip to the cobbles back in 1997, when he played George Freeman on Coronation Street.

He returned to Weatherfield once again in 2004, this time playing Honor Blackman's husband Bernie.

As well as his Corrie cameos, the popular actor has also appeared on another much-loved soap - Brookside.

In 1994, he briefly joined the cast of the axed Channel 4 soap as Ray Piper.

In addition to his soap stints, Duggie has also popped up on shows likes Fat Friends, The Bill, All Creatures Great and Small, Minder, Last of the Summer Wine and Peak Practice.

With an impressive CV, Duggie was previously was inducted into Grand Order of Water Rats - a British entertainment industry fraternity and charitable organisation- eventually succeeding to the position of 'King Rat' in 2020.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV and ITV Hub
